Tell Fortunes with Playing Cards Page 2
TWO OF HEARTS
The two of Hearts is represented by a gentleman who appears as polite, cultured, elegant, and well to do. It indicates that such a person is going to enter the subject’s life and offer help in some very important way so the subject will achieve success or meet a goal.
THREE OF HEARTS
Represented by the Sun, this card foretells happiness and popularity. The subject will need to focus on self-improvement to reap full benefits from the card. Enroll in classes, learn new skill sets, learn to speak before groups, and/or start a new diet/exercise regime so that a better person emerges that will attract the positive because of the happiness and self-confidence being radiated. If the three appears near cards of snakes, mice, or dark clouds, a minor disappointment is foretold.
FOUR OF HEARTS
Symbolized by a fish, this is a card indicating coming wealth and possessions. It may be a pay raise, lucrative investments, an inheritance, a windfall winning, new furniture, new clothes, or a new car. Tell the subject to look carefully at the blank space in the middle of the card and imagine it filling up with abundance. It is not as effective and will require more hard work if it
appears in the far future line of the card layout.
FIVE OF HEARTS
Represented by the Moon, the five is a card of good fortune and inherent power, especially if the Moon in the evening sky appears near. Think of the card as representing the powers of attraction of the Moon along with its natural intuition and skill in seeing what lies ahead. If the card should appear in the far future line of the reading, the subject’s secrets are about to be exposed. Guarding those secrets may not be possible because of the power of the card that cannot be overcome.
SIX OF HEARTS
The house that serves as the symbol for the six of Hearts indicates two possibilities. First, it may foretell a move to a new home. Second, it may foretell a series of successes in projects that are underway. Even if the subject’s current situation is unpleasant and hopeless, the card speaks of a happy and prosperous future. If the card turns up in the layout of a single person, marriage is predicted as well as marital happiness. The couple needs to be understanding and protective of each other and cooperate and/or compromise in the face of difficulties.
SEVEN OF HEARTS
Symbolized by nesting birds, the seven indicates a change of residence or a move to a new home. The new home is likely to be a positive move for the subject even though the card sounds disruptive in the process. If the card appears in the present of near future part of the card layout, the move will not be far from where the subject is currently living. If the card appears in the far future line of the layout, the move is likely to be of greater distance, perhaps another city, state, or country.
EIGHT OF HEARTS
The card of the cat foretells sincere flattery is on its way whether it is deserved or not. The subject should be grateful and savor the moment, but resist any urge to indulge in self-glory and aggrandizement. Near the five of Spades in the reading layout, the eight of Hearts speaks of possible personal injury so caution must be advised. Near the six or ten of Spades in the reading layout, it foretells arguments and power struggles in a relationship.
NINE OF HEARTS
Symbolized by a huge ship, the nine indicates the coming of riches in some form as well as a possible journey over water. Think of this card as your proverbial ship arriving in port laden with good fortune for you. The good fortune may take the form of an inheritance, a smart business deal, or a wise investment. On a lesser scale, it may be a better paying job or an unforeseen windfall. The card is positive in nature—the subject needs to focus on being deserving of wishes.
TEN OF HEARTS
The card of the floral bouquet speaks of rewards and a long and happy life. It also promises improvement in the subject’s current situation, especially if something worrisome or unpleasant is being encountered. In fact, the vibration of the ten of Hearts is so positive that problems may suddenly have a way of solving themselves when this card appears. Special note: The ten of Hearts is an antidote card that causes negative cards that are near it in the layout to lose their power for negativity.
JACK OF HEARTS
Represented by a mysterious closed book, the jack forecasts a discovery that will change the direction of the subject’s life in a powerful and a positive way. The discovery may take the form of a person, an event, or a bit of information that is life changing. The Jack may also represent the appearance of an eligible bachelor or someone in the military in the subject’s life.
QUEEN OF HEARTS
Symbolized by a circle which is often shown as a ring, the Queen foretells the marriage for one who is single and happiness for one who is already married. The card emphasizes the connectedness of all things and invites the subject to search for his connections in the Universe’s scheme of things. If the card appears to the left of the subject or in the far future line of the reading layout, it warns that those who have a negative attitude or narrow outlook will end up going in circles and winding up right where they began. The Queen might also indicate a visit or message from an attractive good-natured woman who has the subject’s best interests at heart.
KING OF HEARTS
Represented by two hands embracing in a handshake, the King of Hearts foretells agreements, contracts, or having someone placing full confidence in the subject. It also reminds the subject to trust the family and close friends to serve as a source of strength and help in troubling times. Near the seven or nine of Diamonds or the Queen or King of Spades in the reading layout, the King forecasts a friendship turning into love. Near the three of Diamonds in the reading layout, the King forecasts financial success. Near the Jack of Clubs, it foretells finding favor with authority figures (like bosses) or recognition for a personal project that has been in the works for some time.
Diamonds
ACE OF DIAMONDS
The birds that are the symbol of the ace warn of nearby danger, misfortune, and secret enemies or the arrival of bad news. The subject will need to be strong, alert, and ready to act quickly to meet the challenges. If the ace appears in the far future line of the reading layout, the likelihood of overcoming the negativity of the card is enhanced. The nine of Hearts, ten of Hearts, Jack of Hearts, or Queen of Diamonds appearing in the layout will also serve to neutralize the evil and negativity of the ace.
TWO OF DIAMONDS
The card of the seated lady foretells success with regard to a long-term project. The project may be a romance, a business, a creative endeavor, or a speculative venture. The subject is warned not to change directions but to continue on as in the past because diligence and perseverance will be rewarded by this card.
THREE OF DIAMONDS
Represented by an open antique money safe, the three foretells coming money that needs to be kept safe and secure. In the same vein, it warns against losses through taking chances, gambling, or engaging in speculative endeavors.
FOUR OF DIAMONDS
Symbolized by the dog, the four of Diamonds focuses on true and loyal friends as well as how valuable they are. If the four is near one of the cloud cards or appears in the far future line of the reading layout, the subject must guard against secret enemies who cloak themselves in the garb of friendship.
FIVE OF DIAMONDS
The card of the ship’s anchor indicates success in business and in romance. It also sends a message of honesty to the subject because, in cheating others, the subject is likely to find himself the victim. This is especially true if the six or ten of Spades, the ace or eight or ten of Clubs, or the ace of Hearts also
appear in the reading layout.
SIX OF DIAMONDS
Represented by the lion, the six warns of shocking bad news so the subject needs to be prepared for unforeseen challenges to be met and problems to be solved. Strength, fortitude, and a positive outlook are advised.
SEVEN OF DIAMONDS
The card of the flaming hearth forecasts good fortune
and has the power to neutralize evil, unlucky, or negative cards that appear nearby in the reading layout (think of the flame as burning out the negativity near it). In addition, the seven has the power to enhance the value of the positive or lucky cards in the layout.
EIGHT OF DIAMONDS
Symbolized by a shattered mirror, the eight indicates bad luck for several years is possible if the subject is not cautious, strong, faithful, honest, hopeful, and positive in outlook. Success is not denied by the eight, but it will be more difficult to achieve and will significantly boost self-esteem with its achievement. If it appears in the far future line of the reading layout, the death of a friend is foretold. It may also indicate misplaced affections.
NINE OF DIAMONDS
Symbolized by a heart, the nine of Diamonds forecasts good luck and great joy. The subject needs to focus on sharing with others so that the promised luck will multiply and improve with a positive outlook.
TEN OF DIAMONDS
This is a strong card represented by the scythe and sheaf of wheat. It warns of disappointment and coming ill luck so the subject needs to be on guard and be prepared for the unexpected. Serious matters or disagreements might also revolve around the subject’s family and close friends. To quote my mother: “Ill luck will attend the step” so think decisions through to their conclusion carefully when this card appears.
JACK OF DIAMONDS
The Jack of Diamonds is symbolized by a horse with a rider that appears to be coming toward the subject. The rider is bearing good news for the subject of the reading. It may take a while to arrive but is likely to improve the direction and quality of life in dynamic and dramatic ways. It may also indicate a young person who is full of mischief and run to be around. The Jack is so powerful that unlucky or unfortunate cards that are turned up near him in the reading layout are neutralized.
QUEEN OF DIAMONDS
Represented by children at play, the Queen is gentle in nature and the heralds much happiness and general peace of mind for the subject. The card foretells interaction with children. It may also indicate a fair-colored woman who loves to gossip and socialize.
KING OF DIAMONDS
The symbol for the King of Diamonds is a letter. In the reading layout, the King forecasts the coming to good news. If the subject is touching something or someone when this card is turned over, unexpected good fortune is very near and will happen soon. The form of the fortune is likely to be in assets like real estate, furniture, antiques, jewelry, or gemstones rather than in the form of actual dollars. The result is a feeling of wealth and being fortunate and lucky. The King might also herald the coming of a white-haired older man who is scheming and secretive.
Chapter III
The Significance of Numbers
The card number assumes significance if it should appear more than once in a reading layout. If it should appear three or four times in a layout, pay very special attention to both the number and the card meanings because a very special message is there for the person whose cards are being read.
CARD NUMBER TWO
Two cards have a dual nature. Their appearance indicates something gets doubled (either in the realm of reward and good luck or in the realm of trouble and bad luck) but, conversely, they might also indicate that something is cut in half. Look carefully at the cards around more than one layout two to discover how they are likely to work for the subject.
CARD NUMBER THREE
In general, threes indicate good luck and success. They often forecast that the subject will be presented with three choices and must choose wisely to avoid disaster. In some instances, they foretell a rise to power that puts the subject in the Number Three position rather than Number One. Remind the subject that the three position is important and is really not so terrible—the alternative may be no position at all.
CARD NUMBER FOUR
Four cards indicate unity and strength. Think of the four directions— north, south, east, west—when you see the four cards. Others may come to the subject for direction so leadership qualities and teaching abilities may need to be honed and developed. The four is also suggestive of the four seasons. The subject may face changes as the seasons change in the coming year and may need to focus on being positive and moving in a positive direction. Traditionally, the four card is considered the “perfect” card and to draw several fours is to assure a future of perfection. The concept of perfection comes from the four equal sides of the square and the four letters in the Latin name for God. Because the directions of East and West each have four letters, it is considered more favorable if the subject moves in those directions when the fours appear in the reading layout.
CARD NUMBER FIVE
More than one five card in the reading layout foretells physical activity so the subject needs to focus on health, strength, and stamina. In Oriental lore, the five brings five blessings to those who are deserving of them. The blessings are peace, propriety, wisdom, uprightness, and love. The five is also thought to have mirror-like qualities so that whatever is received is reflected to others. In such a way, the benefits from the fives are shared and multiplied.
CARD NUMBER SIX
Six cards symbolize the double triangle or two times three. If the subject holds several six cards, two three-part gifts will be received or something will increase to six times its original size. Advise the subject to guard against weight gain and to follow a beneficial diet and exercise regime.
CARD NUMBER SEVEN
Seven cards are thought to transmit a mystical message to the subject of the card reading. Advise the subject to get organized on all levels. Since seven is considered a sacred number, a more religious or spiritual path is likely to be taken and a great degree of happiness and satisfaction is likely to result. Some card readers feel that if the subject becomes more involved in spiritual realms, he will be blessed seven times or even seven times seven.
CARD NUMBER EIGHT
Eights are regarded as magnetic and mystical cards because the symbol for eight is composed of twin circles—love and knowledge. Advise the subject to pursue these two qualities and warn him not to promote himself at the expense of others because it is self-defeating and negative to do so. Eight indicates the
ability to increase and enhance holdings and to secure eternal happiness.
CARD NUMBER NINE
Nine cards summon change and bring resounding success into the life of the subject. Advise hard work and study to help the subject as the trip up the ladder of success to the top is made.
Chapter IV
The Significance of Colors
Red and black are the colors of playing cards. The colors are not truly important unless a reading layout has a majority of one color. At that point, the color—red or black—becomes one of the most important parts of the reading.
THE RED CARDS
Red brings forth a feeling of warmth, luxury, splendor, and sunshine. Think of red in terms of sunlight’s radiant heat. The subject will receive attention and recognition but will need to guard against excessive pride (which, like all things excessive, is negative). Since the red cards are generally cards of personal luck and success, the subject should focus on taking others into consideration and helping them to move forward and advance along with him. Red cards also indicate increased popularity and inclusion in social circles. Look carefully at the card layout because the red cards may also symbolize danger is indicated in other areas of the layout.
Red aces call for the subject to be alert because threats lie near. Red twos foretell love. Red threes indicate coming involvement in a trio that will be problematical in some way. The red four heralds four opportunities coming to the subject. The red fives show someone coming who may or may not be honorable—those who promise too much may deliver nothing so be careful to prevent loss. Red sixes promote good health and attract the healing ray. The red sevens remind the subject to right any wrongs that have been perpetuated by him. Red eights indicate that it is time to make changes and get out of ru
ts—the subject needs to focus on social activities, recreation, and vacations for a change of pace and a learning experience. The red nines foretell the arrival of packages and advise the subject to share with others whatever is not needed or cannot be used. Red tens indicate employment changes like pay raises or promotions. Red jacks foretell the arrival of helpful men who are problem solvers. Red queens bring important women who have good suggestions and advice for the subject. Red kings are givers of strength to the subject—have the subject hold the card between the right and left hands to feel the warmth and strength surge through the body from the red king.
THE BLACK CARDS
Always remember that forewarned is forearmed. Black cards send forth dark and mysterious vibrations but they also command respect, inspire dignity, and garner attention. Often seen as the herald of death, the black has long been recognized as having awesome powers that may be frightening to some people because of its traditional connection with evil, suspense, and the unknown. Read black cards as cards of warning so the subject can make changes, build defenses, erect barriers, gather resources, call for help, and be prepared for what is coming. If the messages of the black cards are ignored, an out of control situation or disaster is likely.
Black aces foretell an undesirable event connected with the job, home, or family that will gradually improve—advise the subject to be strong and not to surrender or give up. Black twos herald conflict in the home or family circle that will be a test of strength, moral fiber, and character. Black threes signal opportunities that come through three people or evolve through a series of three events, but caution is necessary—deal only with those you are sure you can trust. Black fours foretell health problems on the physical or mental stress level so it is time for checkups and new diet/fitness regimes. Black fives forecast problems in a relationship—focus on compromise to avoid arguments and call on your basic sense of fairness when dealing with others. Black sixes foreshadow problems in the employment arena. A pay raise or promotion that has been worked for may not materialize as expected, or a power struggle may come to pass with someone in authority—it may be time to look for a new position and fresh opportunities. Travel is not advised for seven weeks when a black seven turns up in a reading. Sadness and depression may lie ahead when a black eight is turned—focus on the positive. Black nines deliver challenges on your doorstep that will be testing and must be met. Black tens indicate that those around the subject of the reading are about to be tested and challenged—the subject may be called on to help or to be supportive in some way. A message is on its way to you if a black jack turns up in the card layout—once again a challenge or test is foretold but it can lead to opportunity. A black queen indicates a woman coming into your life either at home or on the job—be congenial but, if she presents a scheme of any sort, avoid her. Likewise, a black king indicates a man who will seem helpful, but caution is to be advised in dealing with him because he may be centered primarily on himself and self-interests.
